Weather forecasting by the Japan Meteorological Agency is recognized as world-class. Forecasts are made on the basis of high-speed calculations made in a short period of time, using massive data from satellites and observatories around the world. Those calculations are performed using supercomputer systems. For many years, Hitachi has been responsible for building and maintaining these systems, and is supporting development of weather forecasting from the sidelines.
